Teide Observatory Open Day

The Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias will be holding two open days this month on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd.

From 10am until 5pm, visitors will have the opportunity to take a guided tour around the observatory and learn all about the work that goes on. Those on the tour will also have the chance to ask any question they want to, whether about the solar system, nearest stars, nebulae, galaxies, or even the age and origin of the universe.

The open days will be held at the observatory in Izaña, where groups will be taken at intervals to see the impressive telescopes. Visitors are encouraged to bring comfortable shoes, sunglasses and a coat because the observatory is located high up.

Those who suffer from cardiovascular or respiratory issues are encouraged to check with their doctor prior to visiting the observatory because the high altitude may cause breathing problems.

The Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias is an international Spanish research centre with two headquarters and two observatories set in fantastic locations for astronomical study. It is in Tenerife where the astrophysical research and technical projects are developed, as well as a postgraduate school.
