New Commercial Centre for Adeje

Members of COTMAC (the Commission for Environment and Territorial Planning of the Canary Islands) paid an official visit to the proposed site and gave the go-ahead for construction to begin.

This step was hugely significant development for the leisure project which will cover a vast 410,000 square metres of land stretching across the ravine areas of Las Torres. The reviewed plan will take all issues into consideration, including the potential impact on vegetation, fauna and the environment.

Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga stressed the importance of such a facility for the municipality to support and boost local tourism, as well as greatly helping small and medium businesses. The council believes that the project will create a staggering 2,000 jobs and another 1,100 indirectly.

The piece of land upon which the new commercial centre will be built was originally reserved for a theme park, but over the last 17 years, although much interest has been shown, nothing has come to fruition.

Because of this Tropicana Atlántico SL applied to change the proposed use of the land from a theme park to a commercial centre with a large public park and outdoor amphitheatre.
