Wildlife in Tenerife

For anyone with an interest in wildlife - especially birds, butterflies, dragonflies or reptiles - the Canary Islands are so remarkable it can be difficult to know where to start ... or finish!
The landscapes vary over the islands from lush pine forests to the desert landscape and volcanic cone of Pico del Teide - Spain's highest point. Many of the plants up here are unique to these islands, while birds to be seen in this spectacularly beautiful national park include Plain Swift, Berthelot's Pipit and Atlantic Canary - a trio of species found only on the Canaries and Madeira.
Wildlife enthusiasts should not miss the opportunity of visiting Tenerife's neighboring archipelago - La Gomera. The crossing itself promises views of Bottlenose Dolphins and Short-finned Pilot Whales, while seabirds Bulwer's Petrel, Cory's and Little Shearwaters are also likely to make an appearance.
