BBQ’s not permitted during the heat wave
The Cabildo has voiced its considerable concern regarding the tinder box conditions of the forest and recreational BBQ areas in the mountains of Tenerife, many of which have been sealed off since the announcement on the 27th of June.
Consequently they have issued a notice banning all BBQ's in these areas during the heat wave, which at times is above 30 degrees centigrade, even in areas as high as 700 metres above sea level.
Agricultural burning and the use of fireworks have also been stopped until the weather situation changes.
Even though the public have taken the importance of this ban very seriously, the fire brigade have still attended at least 10 alarms Since last Friday and four fires in the Los Silos area have affected a great deal of land estimated at around 1.5 hectares and many Palm trees.
It is imperative that all residents and tourists visiting these areas are vigilant and help to reduce the risk of these fires, as well as the BBQ ban the public has been asked to dispose of cigarettes in an appropriate way and never throw lit cigarettes from the car windows.
The mountains of Tenerife and the Teide National park are areas of outstanding beauty and need to be looked after so that we can all enjoy them.
