Aqualand Welcomes New Resident
Cande – a 40-year-old dolphin – received the perfect gift for Spanish Mother’s Day this year when she gave birth to her fourth baby in the breeding quarter of the dolphinarium at Aqualand.
Cande is not alone – there are two other female resident dolphins at the park which are eager to help her take care of her offspring. The two females will continue to live with Cande and the baby for the next two years and when the infant reaches four or five years of age, it will follow its mum and enter the park’s breeding programme.
Aqualand’s successful breeding programme has become so advanced that it is now one of the leading centres in Spain and one of the largest in Europe.
José Luis Barbero – the technical director of the dolphinarium – said that everyone at Aqualand was thrilled with the birth which has been long-awaited and anticipated by the whole team. It was the 15th birth in the centre and one of five within the Aspro Group across Europe.
Aqualand boasts the best dolphin show in Europe with 11 dolphins taking part, 7 of which were born at the park as part of the breeding programme.
