Tenerife Symphony Orchestra

The Tenerife Sypmphony Orchestra perform all over Tenerife as well as locations all over the world - conducted by world renowned Lu Jia.

Lu Jia

Born in Shanghai, in 1964, Lü Jia began his studies at the Peking Conservatoire and continued in Berlin from 1989 on.

Considered one of the most important conductors of his generation to have come out of Asia, he has captured international attention with his natural talent and musical taste.
In 1991, aged just 26, he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Teatro Verdi di Trieste where he remained until 1985.
In Trieste, he also conducted the following operas: "The Birthday of the Infanta" by Zemlinsky, "The Magic Flute", "L'Elisir d'amore" and "Lucia di Lammermoor".
Lü Jia has also conducted "Il matrimonio Segreto" by Cimarosa at the Opera de Roma and at San Carlo de Napoli; "The Marriage of Figaro", "Turandot" and "L'Elisir d'amore" at Cagliari; "La clemenza di Tito" by Mozart and "Faust" by Gounod at the Opera di Lausanne; and "Der Zwerg" by Zemlinsky at the Deutsche Oper Berlin ( 1992).

Chief Conductor

In 1993, he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Orchestra Regionale Toscana (ORT), where he stayed until 1999, when he was unanimously named Chief Conductor and Artistic Adviser of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra by all its members.
Lü Jia remained there until June 2005, conducting season concerts and touring abroad (including China). He recorded several CDs for BIS Records, Phone Sweden, NMA and Caprice, with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra.

In 2001, Lü Jia was appointed Principal Conductor of the Lazio Regional Orchestra in Rome. This decade (1995 - 2005) has been characterised by intense work on his part, leading to a greatly enriched repertoire and maturity, and enhanced international fame.
Some of the most important orchestras that he has conducted are as follows: Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, City of Birmingham, Hallé Manchester, Bournemouth, Scottish Chamber, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Radio Saarbrücken, Oslo Philharmonic, Bamberger Symphoniker, Orchestre National de Lyon and Radio Finlandese.

Worldwide Recognition

In 1995, Lü Jia led the Chicago Symphony at the Festival de Ravinia, and the Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras in Australia, in 1996.
Recent engagements include conducting the "Clemenza di Tito" at the Peking Opera, as well as the China Philharmonic, China Symphony and Shangai Symphony.
Highly valued and respected in his homeland, he was invited by the Mayor of Shanghai to conduct the prestigious 2006 New Year Concert.

The Opera

Lü Jia has adroitly won over audiences, critics, musicians and soloists alike, including Viktoria Mullova, Barbara Hendricks, Gil Shaham, Krystian Zimerman, Midori, Radovan Vlatkovic, Christian Lindberg and Uto Ughi.
After his considerable success at the concerts he conducted in June 2005 at the International Piano Festival of Bergamo and Brescia, with the the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, in the same year, he was invited to conduct "Turandot" on the arena stage.
Subsequently, after several years especially devoted to the symphonic repertoire, Maestro Lü Jia has now returned to his former love: the opera.
After his success on this occasion — audience acclaim, positive critics, unanimous approval of musicians, singers and choir — the Arena di Verona named him Principal Conductor for the 2006/07 season.

For the 2006/07 season, he will be the Artistic Director of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, and for the 2007/08 season, he will be both Principal Conductor and Artistic Director.
At the request of the musicians of the Milan Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra, he has been appointed one of the chief guest conductors for three years as from the 2006/07 season.
On 24 June 2006, Lü Jia achieved extraordinary success conducting Cavalleria and Pagliacci at the opening of the 84th Festival 2006 dell'Arena di Verona.
The audience gave him an enthusiastically warm welcome in his debut as Principal Conductor, and critics were unanimous in highlighting his great musicality and professional interpretation of both operas, which are not easy to perform on a stage like the Arena di Verona.
