Maspalomas
The Maspalomas area is the biggest touristresort in Gran Canaria, and the name is also often used on the nearby resorts like Playa del Inglés, San Agustín, Meloneras, San Fernando and Sonnenland.

Lagoon
Walk through the sanddunes in Maspalomas and it feels like you are miles away the touristresorts south in Gran Canaria. Most tourists stick to the crowded beach near Playa del Inglés, even if the beach is more than 6 km long. Walk to the sanddunes and you can find a spot all to yourself. Along the beach there are some small beach bars where you can buy an icecream or something for drink.
La Charca de Maspalomas is a freshwater lagoon near the sanddunes in Maspalomas. The lagoon is an important place for birds and fishes, and is therefore protected. The water is a mix of freshwater from the Barranco de Fataga, and of seawater coming in from the ocean. The average depth of the charca is 1,5 meters, but this varies with the seasons and the weather.
Nearby the sanddunes in Maspalomas is the popular golf-court with 18 holes, and next to the lagoon is a camel park where you can go on a caml ride through the sanddunes. A bit more north is the shoppingcenter Faro 2 with shops, restaurants and bars. Another shoppingcenter, Faro, can be found near the beach and the lighthouse. Above Faro 2 is the amusementpark Holiday World and the waterpark Aqua Park.
