The Botanical Garden in2004-05-25:23-33-08 :: Steve Andrews
The Botanical Garden in Puerto de la Cruz is one of my favorite places on the island and it is easy to spend many hours there wandering around, and taking in all the beauty of the trees, shrubs, flowers and ferns on display. Once you have entered the gardens you have a choice of paths to take and to make sure I saw it all, I started at one side and went to the top, then walked back down the next pathway and then up the one that followed until I had been along each of the walkways, although I stopped off at the pools to chat to other visitors, to take some photos and just to delight in watching the dragonflies and the thousands of small fish. I spotted red platies in one pool, a favorite of tropical fish enthusiasts, and it was really interesting seeing them as nature intended swiiming around a pond. At the pond in the middle of the park there are terrapins too, which you can see basking in the sun. There are some incredible trees like the Floss-silk tree (Chorisia speciosa), which has big spines coming out of its trunk, and the huge Indian Banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) with such a weird looking trunk and tangles of aerial roots hanging down. But maybe yous plenty of leafy shade. The Botanical Garden is a place you will not forget and will want to visit again!
