Adeje
The municipality of Adeje was traditionally dedicated to agriculture and fishing, but more recently tourism has played an enormous part in its economy.
Adeje presents an important archaeological and architectural area in southern Tenerife, and of particular note are the funeral caves linked to Tenerife's original inhabitants, the mysterious Guanches. Set in shelves along the Precipice of Hell, these motley reminders of an ancient civilisation are fast becoming a major tourist attraction. Nowadays, Adeje is considered to be something of an upmarket resort with its range of good restaurants and bars and is host to some of the most sophisticated hotels and apartment complexes on the island.
