Tenerife's Wine Routes a Success

Over 1.5 million tourists visited Spain's 21 wine routes last year, which aim to combine discovering new landscapes with visiting wineries and experimenting with new sensations. One of the latest additions is located within the Canary Islands, and is proving to be extremely successful with the average tourist spending 100 euros per trip.
Research shows that the holiday-makers who make the most of these trips are mainly those who stay at four and five star hotels, the majority being of Spanish nationality (93%), which could be due to lack of advertising in the foreign press. However, there are plenty varieties available to suit all tastes and budgets, meaning not only a wine expert can enjoy wine-tasting or a guided tour to a winery or vineyard.
The current wine routes in Tenerife pass through Tegueste, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Laguna and La Oratava, with Ycoden Daute Isora and Lanzarote wine routes being planned presently. Wine routes are not normally on the agenda for visitors to Tenerife, however, with more foreign advertising, there is no reason why wine tasting and trips to wineries and vineyards could not become a popular attraction for Tenerife.
