Tenerife's First Yoga Festival

Tenerife South Indian Association and the Hindu Cultural Centre, in conjunction with the Consulate General of India in Tenerife and Yogosastra are holding the first Yoga Festival de Canarias in the 22nd of August, which expects to attract four thousand people.
The sports hall in El Galeon will host the festival, which will take place from 9am until 6:30pm and will continue on the beach at La Enramada from 7:30pm onwards. Through the festival, the organisers aim to encourage more members of the general public to practice yoga and educate people of the health benefits that yoga offers. The ancient ritual came into existence around 3,000 BC and is believed to increase flexibility, increase the lubrication of the joins, ligaments and tendons, massage all the organs of the body, detoxify the body as well as toning the muscles, making it one of the best exercises to practice. Yoga is also said to have many psychological benefits and is used by many as a method of relaxation after a stressful day.
Yoga classes, including special classes for children, youths, adults and seniors will be coordinated by trained yoga teachers present in various schools on the island. Saraswatiji Swami Chidananda, the guest of honour and spiritual leader of Rishikesh in India, will supervise the event.
