Organisers of Azul Marino, an exhibition touring Europe, hope their influence will help raise the profile and understanding of the unique marine eco-system of the Canary Islands.
Azul Marino was met with a positive response when it was first displayed in Güimar at the beginning of February. Coordinators of the project claim that there will be plenty additional opportunities in the near future to see the interactive display which includes games, information panels and photographs.
The aim of the touring exhibition is to inform people about the marine life and the submerged living organisms living in the eco-system under the sea. It stands to reason that a better understanding of the ocean and its marine life will help its preservation.
As the minister responsible for agriculture, livestock and fisheries for the Tenerife Cabildo, José Joaquín Bethencourt explained: "This touring exhibition seeks to disseminate basic knowledge of our marine eco-systems in the Canaries in order to preserve them."
The condition of the waters around the archipelago means that the ocean has a huge variety of species; however the density numbers are continuously decreasing, something the initiative aims to stop.
