An incredible number of Europeans logged on to the flight comparison website Skyscanner.net on Tuesday last week to book their holidays.
The second Tuesday of the year is known as ‘Skyber Tuesday' and is recognised as the busiest day of the year for the travel website. The name was coined from the term ‘Cyber Monday', which refers to the busiest day of the year for internet commerce.
The top three searched-for countries on this day were Spain, followed by the USA and the UK.
Tenerife just missed the top slot for the most searched-for island/city in the world and came second - after Malaga and before Alicante.
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, many people are planning romantic breaks to the beautiful island, which is possibly why it placed so high in SkyScanner.net's rankings.
Another reason why Tenerife is so popular at this time of year is almost definitely the upcoming carnival season. Every February a huge carnival - the second largest in the world - is held in Santa Cruz. The colourful celebrations and fantastic festivities that go on during this time attract more and more tourists each year.
