It's not just the soon to be released epic "Clash of the Titans" which is putting Tenerife on the international film map. Since the Tenerife Film Commission was formed at the start of 2002, more than 600 photographic sessions and recordings have been made on the island.
2009 was a particularly successful year for the Commission with 75 projects taking advantage of Tenerife's stunning natural environment. This resulted in 262 days of production which included the Spanish movie "One More Hour" as well as the creation of a German television series and filming by the Disney Channel and a Japanese company.
Lamborghini, Toyota and Heineken have also created promotional campaigns and publicity on the island, and the top three countries that have chosen to use Tenerife are Germany, Spain and Britain.
This activity has resulted in an impressive €4 million spin-off income which is double that of 2008. Cabildo First Vice-President and Tourism Chief José Manuel Bermúdez has stated that filming on the island is big business and has stressed its importance not only for the positive impact on the economy, but also for promoting Tenerife as a year round holiday destination.
