According to the popular online travel survey, TravelRepublic.co.uk, Tenerife is home to the second-best hotel in the world.
The Villa Cortes Hotel located in Playa de Las Américas received an average score of 4.85 out of a possible five by its guests last year, placing second only to the Aegaen Sky Hotel in Crete.
Paul Furner, TravelRepublic's managing director commented: "Last year we received more than 70,000 new reviews. We've added up the ratings our customers gave the hotels they stayed in and compiled the top 20. We are delighted that this year a newcomer takes the top spot with an almost perfect score of 4.95."
There were several other hotels in the Canary Islands featuring in the list: Los Jameos Playa Hotel in Lanzarote came 9th, Cordial Mogan Playa Hotel in Gran Canaria was awarded 11th place and Arona Gran Hotel in Los Cristianos placed 13th.
Customers are able to post a review on the site only after they have made their booking, experienced their holiday and returned home in an attempt to make reviews 100% authentic and not open to manipulation.
To be eligible to appear in the top-20 list, a hotel needed to receive at least 25 reviews during last year.
