The Cabildo of Tenerife has announced the first stage of the "Isla de Tenerife" landscaping competition. The Cabildo's aim is to reward the various social organisations on the island that are preserving and improving the landscape, as well as encouraging others to help.
The three categories that are designed to award different groups and initiatives were released to the public this morning by the organiser, the European Network of Local and Regional Authorities for the Implementation of the European Landscape Convention.
Category one, "Improved integration of business premises into the landscape", is aimed at small businesses in Tenerife whose terraces and buildings have been improved in order to make them blend in with the surrounding landscape more effectively.
Category two, "Good public landscaping practice", targets non-profit organisations on the island that have carried out projects that have improved the landscape of Tenerife, such as renovation, integration or awareness-raising projects.
Category three, "Using short films to raise awareness amongst the young population about the protection of the island's landscape", addresses youth between the ages of 18 and 30 to make short films between one and 15 minutes long, focusing on the appreciation of Tenerife's landscapes, ideas of how to improve the landscape and the involvement of the youth in its conservation.
In addition to the social and institutional recognition, a financial reward will also be given for the first and second place winners of each category.
