A recent article written by Tom Dyckhoff and published in the Guardian claimed that the capital city of Tenerife - Santa Cruz - is one of the top-five best places to live in the world.
In his article, Dyckhoff focuses on the idea that Santa Cruz is a part of Tenerife very rarely seen by tourists and therefore symbolises a secret, forgotten land.
He continues to describe how the city closer resembles Spain than the rest of Tenerife, due to its pastel-coloured neighbourhoods which date back to between the 1980s and 1930s.
Santa Cruz is also a cultural hub of the Canary Islands and is home to several art galleries and a wide array of sculptures created by architects Herzog, De Meuron and Santiago Calatrava, located in the city's park.
Dyckhoff accurately points out that the island's capital is large enough not to be dull, yet still small enough to be manageable. Not just a place full of things to do, Santa Cruz is also a great place to just sit-back in a small cafe and people-watch.
