Feathers, sequins and glitter are replacing holly, baubles and tinsel as Santa Cruz prepares for this year's carnival extravaganza.
The theme for the 2012 carnival is the Swinging Sixties, so an abundance of psychedelic colour if promised, in addition to loads of flowery hippy costumes and fabulously decorated floats.
Many people think of the Santa Cruz carnival as being one big day of celebrations, but this is certainly not the case. For the first time in the carnival's history, there will be two main carnival days this year.
The first will be on Sunday, February 19th beginning at 1pm and the second will take place on Saturday, February 25th.
The carnival is not restricted to just these two days - there is a wide range of festivities and celebrations which go on throughout the whole of February. The final event takes place on Sunday, February 26th, with the antique car show, the final fiesta and the grand ball.
