In 1904 The Olsen Family's business activities began in the Canary Islands. It was Thomas Olsen the grandfather of the present day president of the company, Fred Olsen who started the maritime company as a way of exporting from his agricultural centre in La Gomera. Soon he was exporting banana and tomato crops to the rest of Europe.
