Water Sports Training Proves a Great Success
The Centro Insular de Deportes Marinos (CIDEMAT), which specialises in the teaching of water sports activities, recorded an increase of 14.9% over 2008 in users of its amenities - amounting to 5,498 people. Tenerife residents and tourists alike have taken advantage of the facilities on offer, enjoying a wide range of water-based training courses.
During the year, 3,530 children received the opportunity to spend a day trying out three areas of nautical expertise with a further 119 students enjoying a variety of water sports over a four day period.
The sailing school prepared 142 students for the CIDEMAT examinations on offer, including Basic Sailing Master, Boat Master Recreation and Yachtsmaster Offshore.
Other water sport activities enjoyed over the period include Aqua Fitness, Windsurfing, Canoeing and Water Skiing as well as Diving and Dive Tours. With any water sport the ability to swim is imperative. The centre therefore has courses available for adults and children and during the year received 387 attendees.
As expected, the demand for training was at its highest during the Spring and Summer.
Full details of future courses are available on the CIDEMAT website www.deportestenerife.net/cidemat
