Changes Afoot for South Tenerife

The president of Ashotel, southern Tenerife's hotel association, has recently discussed a few of the future plans for the province. José Fernando Cabrera, speaking in an interview with Island Connections, has told of some of the improvements he would like to see implemented in the near future.
When asked what he thought was lacking in the region, Cabrera's immediate response was "beaches". He went on to explain that, "people want good services on beaches and real, golden sand". He then described plans to join together three beaches in Playa de las Américas, resulting in one large beach, as well as replacing the crushed rock surface at La Enramada, La Caleta with fine sand.
Cabrera also discussed an innovative plan for the south of the island with the introduction of bicycle hire with a difference. The scheme would mean that bikes could be hired from a specific area where, upon payment of the hire fees, users would be issued with a plastic card to unlock the bicycles from their parking places. The idea is that people can then take the bikes to different zones within the region, park up at specified stations and then unlock a bicycle when they wish to move on.
Mr Cabrera also said that all remaining roads in Playa de las Américas are to be renovated, but stressed that "due to cash flow, these projects cannot all be done at once".
"There are many projects underway" Cabrera revealed "Playa de las Américas is improving at a fast pace and the ‘Veronicas' stigma is gradually fading. We have shopping centres, high class hotels, better roads and beaches, as well as golf courses and other facilities. We also have a full range of international restaurants. All these have helped raise the benchmark".
