Africa comes to Tenerife at the Los Gigantes Carnival

Friday 26th February sees the start of the Los Gigantes Carnival and this year the theme is "Africa".
The carnival opens at 7.00 pm on the 26th with a performance by percussion group Arehucas. At 10.30 pm the grand "masked ball" begins, with dancing to the Samady Band.
From 11.00 am on Saturday 27th there are plenty of activities for the children in the main square, including a bouncy castle. At 4.00 pm the Children's Carnival Parade including Disney characters sets off from the El Sombrero apartments, finishing at the Plaza Bouganvilla. Festivities continue with live performances, featuring the rock group Old Dogs New Tricks at 9.00 pm, followed by dancing to the Arguayo Band.
On Sunday 28th the Grand Carnival Parade departs the Fisherwoman's Roundabout in Puerto Santiago and terminates at the Plaza Bouganvilla. A grand open air ball follows, with music from the Kimbara Band.
Monday 1st March at 9.00 pm is the funeral cortège for bereaved widows, departing from the entrance to Los Gigantes and arriving at the Hotel Los Gigantes. After the Burning of the Sardine ceremony the Arguayo Band will bring the festivities to a close.
