Bee's Eye View of Teide

The recent honey tour to Tenerife's National Park proved to be so successful that several others are being organised for the future. The tour, the Bee's Eye View of Teide, was coordinated in association with the Teide National Park alongside Tenerife's Casa de la Miel.
Participants were escorted by professional beekeepers from the Casa de la Miel on a tour in the National Park, focusing on the history of the flora and scenery linked to honey production. Information was also provided about the hives that produce a certain kind of honey that is only found in Tenerife. The bee hives are kept in the mountains, over 1,500 metres above sea level, higher than any other bee habitat in the world, making their honey unique.
The walkers followed the Volcán de Fasnia route, which emerges at the Izaña observatory and finishes at the National Park's visitors centre where the red Tajinastes could be seen in full bloom.
Teide Broom produces honey of a very light amber colour with golden shades cultivated in the late spring and early summer.
The Island Councillor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, José Joaquín Bethencourt, described the aspects of the tour "you learn all about the intensive work the Island's beekeepers have been doing for centuries, which has resulted in local honey varieties that boast extraordinary quality".
