896,000 Google Visits for Tenerife
It has been confirmed that 50% of all people consult the internet first when choosing their holiday destination and market leader Google continues to be the preferred search engine used.
With this in mind Tenerife tourism teamed up with Google in 2007 with a campaign to boost visitors to Tenerife related sites.
So far webtenerife.com has had 896.974 visits and this year's campaign with started in march and will end in February 2009 will see a lot more involvement from not only the Cabildo and Ashotel, but also the municipalities of Adeje, Arona, Granadilla de Abona, Arico, Vilaflor Guide Isora, Santiago del Teide and San Miguel de Abona (who will be promoting the southern areas), and Puerto de la Cruz (for the north).
The campaign works by using sponsored links from more than 5,000 Island related terms and will cost 330,000 Euros which works out at .22 Euros per visit based on current viewings of almost 4 million.
The countries that the campaign will target are Spain, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Italy.
Minister of Tourism of Tenerife, Jose Manuel Bermudez points out that this is the most cost effective advertising medium used in promoting the Island so far and the Tourism councillors for Arona and Adeje, Angel David Herrera and Miguel Angel Santos, have also emphasised the importance of the internet to Tenerife and its potential tourists.
Results show that the most popular searches are for areas in the south of the island with a total of 446,000 visits, representing half of the total number of 896,000 for the whole island
