Playa de la Arena in Santiago del Teide has once again been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag. The accolade, given each year to beaches that meet with stringent criteria from the "Asociacíon de Educación Ambiental y del Consumidor" (ADEAC), recognises high standards of environmental cleanliness and awareness, as well as lifeguard services and First Aid facilities, all of which are categorized in terms of 4 basic themes - quality of the sea water, environmental information and education, environmental management and security.
Playa de la Arena is 175 metres long and between 50 and 75 metres wide. Its facilities include public baths and showers, a First Aid post, doctor and registered nurse. Mobility-impaired visitors have no problems accessing the beach as there are no restricting barriers or zones that are difficult to navigate.
Residents and locals are proud that this top quality beach has once again been recognised on the European stage. They are also aware, of course, that with such recognition comes great responsibility to maintain high standards for all to enjoy. Here's to a 23rd year of success!
