Spain are crowned European Champions
Spain are the Champions of Euro 2008 after they beat Germany 1-0 at Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna on Sunday. It is 44 years since Spain have won the title.
The atmosphere was tense because the Germans always seem to triumph on occasions such as this, but their efforts were in vain as Fernando Torres blasted in a Spanish goal past Germany's goalkeeper Jens Lehmann in the 33rd minute of the first half.
Encouraged at all times by Luis Aragonés their experienced manager, Spain outplayed Germany, even though the score was slight.
The best team won the match and the tournament. There were fantastic performances by all of the Spanish team which included David Silva, the 22-year-old from Arguineguin in Gran Canaria.
The goalkeeper and captain Casillas was exceptional, as usual throughout this tournament, as was Xavi Hernandez and indeed all of this world class Spanish team. The champions were single minded, highly skilled and outplayed the Germans. The disappointment showed on the Germans faces at the final whistle.
