At the opening ceremony the Guest of honour was the Princess of Thailand, Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and 50 youngsters were given complimentary access to try the rides for the first time.

The brainchild of Christoph Kiessling – from the family who have already brought the world-famous Loro Parque to Tenerife – Siam Park is sure to be a massive success.

As a unique project, the construction time for Siam Park was hugely underestimated, with the original opening planned for December 2006. None of the construction workers had any experience of a project like this one and were therefore unaware of the amount of work involved. ProSlides of Canada – responsible for the installation of the rides at many major water parks – have taken their experience and injected an adrenaline rush into Siam Park’s thrilling rides.

With twice as much money spent on the decoration than on the rides themselves, this 52 million euro project displays a huge amount of imagination. Unlike other parks where you can see all the metal supports and bases, the structure has been camouflaged by thick vegetation. Siam Park leaves much more of your experience down to your own imagination and heightens the mystery and surprise that awaits you.

Inspired by the ancient King of Thailand, Siam, the park’s plans received approval from the Thai Royal family before construction began. The Royal architect Professor Ruthai of Bangkok University was responsible for the design of the buildings which capture the feel of the Orient perfectly.

Thai culture is deeply rooted in the historical and superstitious traditions of the Thai people, and it has a profound influence on the Kingdom’s way of life. It is because of this that every aspect of Thai tradition has been considered including positions and design of buildings and rides. Each pagoda has been hand crafted by one of 11 Thai craftsmen who came to Tenerife with imported materials to ensure the largest Thai village outside of Thailand was kept as authentic as possible.

The Attractions

The Wave Palace and Private Beach

You certainly won’t have seen anything quite like the amazing wave palace before! Capable of producing waves of up to three metres, this area of Siam Park is ideal for those wanting to take advantage of the on-site Billabong surf school or simply top up your tan.

For normal use, the wave palace will typically see waves being produced which are around half this size. With a fabulous golden sand beach which includes free sun-beds and parasols and a cocktail creating chill-out bar, this is a place for all ages to relax and enjoy the day. From splashing in the shallows, to self-indulgent relaxation, the wave palace and beach have it all.

The Billabong Shop and Surf School

A Billabong shop and surf school are located on the beach for those wishing to purchase the right gear for their ride on the monster waves! Billabong will also be offering lessons in the mornings and evenings out of park hours so as not to disturb the guests on the beach as you learn to ride the surf!

Private Cabañas and Tropical Islands

Overlooking the beach in the thick jungle-like vegetation, Siam Park has created three executive cabañas which offer luxury and privacy with fabulous views. Each able to accommodate four people, the package includes your entrance tickets along with a ‘fast pass’ allowing you to skip to the front of any queue in the park. The amenities of the cabaña include private sun loungers, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, waiter service as well as private showers and lockers at €3-5 per group. Escape the heat of the day and take a Spanish siesta in one of Siam Park’s cabañas.

Alternatively, hire one of the two tropical islands in the centre of the lazy river able to accommodate 200 people for company parties or birthdays. You are sure to be a popular parent if you organize a day out for everyone at Siam Park for your child’s birthday this year!

Refreshments

To keep the price of refreshments down inside the park there are no sit-down restaurants. Instead there are two buffet areas with seating, serving traditional Thai food, as well as all the British favourites! Alternatively, visit either the rooftop or beach side chill-out bars for a few cocktails, some of which have been uniquely created for Siam Park.

For a mid-morning coffee break visit the Thai Tea House in the floating market for a typical green tea or a strong shot of caffeine to prepare you for the long day ahead!

The Amphitheatre and Evening Entertainment

With an amphitheatre strategically located at the back of the park and a pathway between this and the Magma conference centre in Las Americas, Siam Park promises to offer a whole host of after-hours entertainment. The beach area is also able to support a floating stage, so with both areas being able to accommodate 1,500 people you can expect a full programme of concerts and shows.

Conclusion

The combination of authenticity, mature gardens and water features as well as the many unique water ride experiences, a children’s adventure land and a man-made beach make Siam Park a truly exotic and exciting experience. Enclosed in a jungle of vegetation, once inside Siam Park and hurtling down the Mekong Rapids you could be confused into believing you were an extra in a new Indiana Jones movie!

All in all, Siam Park is a great day out for families, friends, and conference and incentive teams.

A shuttle bus service is available throughout the day from the major resort areas free of charge.
